A Trigger Point is a hyperirritable spot, usually within a taut band of skeletal muscle or in the muscle fascia. It is painful on compression and often gives rise to a predictable pain referral pattern and autonomic response. Although usually idiopathic, it is understood that at some point, some initial trauma will overload the muscles. Some causes include: Overwork fatigue (repetitive or sustained contraction), direct trauma, poor posture, metabolic imbalances (Gout, Hypothyroid, Hypoglycemia) and nutritional inadequacies (Vitamin B, C and Folic Acid). This treatment is conducted by first locating the trigger point and then eliminating it through manual manipulations.
